Sometimes I just need to know that I am safe.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. [Psalm 91:4, NIV]
I remember a story about a woman who loved this psalm in particular and memorized it but when the time came, when she was grabbed by a man who wanted to hurt her, all she could think of and imagine were the feathers of God as a great bird protecting her young. And so this woman cried out, “feathers, feathers, feathers.” But God knew and the man, inexplicably, let her go, almost as though a force field was drawn about her.
This is my cry today, my prayer.
