Psalm 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Today, as I considered what brokenness means for me today, I realized that it’s very easy to pitch forward into “self-condemnation.” To be broken, we don’t have to whip ourselves with our mistakes and sins… just lay them out before the Lord. It’s hard for us to understand that something broken isn’t broken forever. We tend to think of our hearts and spirits like a broken plate, no longer good for anything. But that’s not how God sees them at all.
