Proverbs 20:9
Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin?”
I think this proverb was written because so we convince ourselves that we are “OK” as is or compared to others. We think, “I’m not so bad… I haven’t killed anyone… I haven’t committed adultery…” etc. We justify our actions; we veil our thoughts. Instead, we must lay ourselves bare each day to God’s light who shines into the deepest corners. When we can accept the truth of our dark places, then we will be more willing (and able) to forgive the sins of others toward us.
